Oiltank cabin

After a blog break, made longer than I wanted by a faulty computer, I am finally back, and excited to start the new blog year 2011! What better way to start than by blogging about something unique and innovative? This unusual cabin on the little island Skrova, way up in northern Norway, made me stop in my tracks. How cool is this? Utilising an old storage tank for oil, the owner of this cabin built a three-storied holiday home for his family. All the internal fittings are custom made and fitted by the owner as well. Such an amazing way of creating a comfortable home out of a derelict space.

Beautiful greys

I found this lovely apartment on Swedish real-estate agent Stadshem`s pages. I love the original features in this flat, the beautiful ovens, the detailed cornicing and the high ceilings. The steely grey walls enhance the period details and make this flat such a successful combination of old and new.

Silence

There has been a long silence on my blog over the Holidays, and there is a reason for this. On 23rd December my dear grandmother passed away. She was a wonderfully kind person with an abundance love for everyone around her, especially the grandchildren. It has been an emotional time, and a sad start to the New Year. Today is her funeral, and I dedicate this blog post to her memory. Carnations were her favorite flowers, and they will always remind me of her. There will be a few more days of silence in honor of her memory.

Gift wrap inspiration

Hopefully by now the decorations are up, and all your Christmas shopping has been done. All that is left to do is to wrap those gifts beautifully. I'm of the school of “brown paper packages, tied up with string” myself. But if you want to make a little bit more of an effort, here are some inspiring images for you to enjoy.

PS: Apologies for absents, my computer has been poorly, and is going to hospital first thing in the new year.

Weekend warmer: Cosy bedrooms

I can think of no better way to start a cold wintery Sunday just before Christmas, than waking up in a cosy and warm bedroom. Ideally it would look like one of these lovelies.

Eclectic mix

This house has such a beautiful mix of eclectic pieces. I always think that personal pieces that tell a story is the key to a successful home, and this home has got a lot of stories to tell. I wish my workspace looked as stunning as this:

Decorating with Christmas greens

Nothing spreads the Christmas cheer like decorating with greenery. In my house Hyacinths and Amaryllis where Christmas staples, and the smell of a real tree can't be beaten. Here are some lovely ways to use natural materials in your Christmas decorations. I love this star wreath, and the ice lanterns are just magical.
